Waivers let you present a legal agreement to participants during checkout and require them to accept it before completing their registration. Use a waiver when you need a participant’s written acknowledgment of risk, rules, or terms specific to your event — for example, a race safety disclaimer or a photography consent form. Waivers are particularly well-suited when you also want a dated record of acceptance, an optional electronic signature, or age-appropriate consent handling for minors. If you only need participants to accept your standard terms and conditions, a checkbox field is usually sufficient.
Waivers are booking form fields. You create a waiver field once, then attach it to any booking form. Because each ticket uses a booking form, you can present a different waiver on different ticket types.

Creating a waiver field

Waiver fields are created on the Form Fields tab in your event setup, the same place you create other custom fields. Click Add Form Field, set the field’s type to Waiver, and you’ll be asked to provide:
  • Title — the name shown above the waiver content during checkout (for example, Terms and Conditions Waiver). This also appears as the label on the agreement checkbox.
  • Content — the text of the waiver. HTML formatting is supported.
  • Signature requirement — whether to collect an electronic signature (see Electronic signature).
  • Filter registration options by age — whether to narrow the signing options based on the participant’s date of birth (see Age-based filtering).
Once the field is created, attach it to a booking form on the Forms tab. The waiver then appears at checkout for every ticket that uses that form. Waiver fields are always required — participants must complete the waiver before they can proceed through checkout.

Registration options

When a participant reaches the waiver during checkout, they first select who they are registering for. There are three options:
  • Myself — the purchaser is also the participant.
  • Someone else — the purchaser is registering another adult.
  • A minor or someone I’m legal guardian of — the purchaser is a parent or legal guardian registering a minor.
What the participant is asked to do next depends on which option they choose.

Registering for myself

The participant reads the waiver content, enters today’s date in the date field, and checks the agreement checkbox. If electronic signature collection is enabled, they also type their full name in the signature field. The date must be today’s date. Entering any other date — including a past or future date — produces an Incorrect date error.

Registering for a minor

When registering a minor, the purchaser is acting as the participant’s legal guardian. Two checkboxes are shown:
  1. I confirm I am the parent/legal guardian — confirms the purchaser has the authority to sign on the participant’s behalf.
  2. The waiver agreement checkbox — the same agreement the participant would sign for themselves.
A date field is also shown and must be completed with today’s date. If electronic signature collection is enabled, a signature field appears as well (see Electronic signature).

Registering for someone else

When the purchaser selects Someone else, the waiver content is shown along with an important information notice. No date, signature, or agreement checkbox is presented to the purchaser — the booking can be completed without the purchaser signing. This reflects the fact that the adult participant needs to accept the waiver themselves. If your event requires every participant to have personally signed the waiver before race day, follow up with participants directly or use a separate post-registration process to collect their agreement.

Electronic signature

In addition to the agreement checkbox, you can require or offer an electronic signature — a full-name text field that participants type into as a formal confirmation. There are three settings: The signature field is shown for Myself and minor registrations. It is never shown when the purchaser selects Someone else, regardless of the signature setting.
Use Required when you need a clear record that the individual (or their guardian) personally acknowledged the waiver — for example, when your insurer or governing body expects a named signature on file.

Age-based filtering

When Filter registration options by age is turned on, the registration options shown to the participant narrow automatically based on the date of birth they entered earlier in checkout.
  • If the participant will be under 18 on the race date, only the A minor or someone I’m legal guardian of option is shown.
  • If the participant will be 18 or over on the race date, only Myself and Someone else are shown.
  • If no date of birth has been entered yet, all three options remain visible until one is provided.
If a participant updates their date of birth and their previously chosen option is no longer valid — for example, they entered an adult DOB after selecting the minor option — that selection is automatically cleared and they’ll need to choose again. Use this setting when your event has a minimum age and you want to ensure that anyone under that age is registered via a guardian rather than on their own behalf.

What participants see at checkout

The waiver section appears on the participant details page during checkout. It shows:
  1. A scrollable box containing your waiver content.
  2. A Read the full waiver link that opens the complete waiver in a new tab.
  3. The I’m registering for question with the relevant radio options.
  4. The date field, guardian checkbox, agreement checkbox, and signature field — depending on the option selected and your signature setting.
The section is labeled with your waiver’s title. If you have not set a custom title, a default label is used. If a participant tries to advance to the next step without completing the waiver, they see a This field is required message (if no option was selected) or a Waiver agreement required message (if an option was chosen but the checkbox was not ticked).

Editing a waiver after booking

Participants who need to re-submit their waiver after completing their booking can do so from their manage-booking page. An Edit waivers option appears there when the booking includes at least one waiver field. Selecting it opens a focused view of the waiver fields only, separate from the rest of the booking form. If a participant already signed the waiver when they booked, the agreement checkbox and signature field are shown as locked — the previous acceptance is preserved and cannot be overwritten. The date field is not shown for an already-signed waiver.

Downloading waiver PDFs

For any participant in your startlist, you can generate a PDF record of their waiver acceptance. This is useful if you need to share a signed copy with a venue, insurer, or governing body. The PDF download is available from the participant’s entry in your event’s startlist. You need organizer write access to your event to generate PDFs.

Validation errors and what they mean

This section covers the errors participants may see and what causes them, so you can answer their questions confidently.

”This field is required”

Shown when the participant tries to move to the next step without selecting a registration option (Myself, Someone else, or A minor…). They need to choose an option before proceeding.

”Waiver agreement required”

Shown when the participant selected a registration option but did not tick the agreement checkbox. This applies to the Myself and minor paths — both require the checkbox to be checked.

”Incorrect date”

Shown when the participant enters a date in the date field that is not today’s date. The field only accepts today’s date. Common causes: the participant entered their date of birth by mistake, or they copied a date from somewhere else. Ask them to re-enter today’s date in the format shown in the field placeholder (this matches their locale — for example, DD/MM/YYYY for UK participants and MM/DD/YYYY for US participants).

”Please enter your full name to sign the waiver”

Shown when the signature field is set to Required and the participant leaves it blank. They need to type their full legal name into the signature field before the form can be submitted.
