# Use Nova in Slack

> Connect your Slack account to Nova and ask questions about your Let's Do This event data from a shared channel.

  Nova must be added to a shared Slack channel between your team and Let's Do
  This before you can connect. Ask your Technical Account Manager to create the
  channel and add Nova. You also need a Let's Do This dashboard account with
  access to [Nova](/docs/nova/getting-started-with-nova).

Use Nova in Slack when you want a quick answer while coordinating with your
team or Technical Account Manager. You can ask about registrations, revenue,
capacity, marketing, and other event data without leaving the conversation.

Each person connects their own Slack account to their own Let's Do This account.
Do not share your connection link with anyone else.

## Connecting your Slack account

<Steps>
  <Step title="Ask for a shared Slack channel">
    Ask your Technical Account Manager to create a shared channel between your
    Slack workspace and Let's Do This, and to add Nova to it.

    If you already have a shared channel with your Technical Account Manager,
    ask them to confirm that Nova has been added.

  <Step title="Tag Nova with a question">
    In the shared channel, tag **@Nova** and ask a question. For example:

    > @Nova, how are registrations tracking for my next event?

    If your Slack account is not connected yet, Nova replies with a personal
    connection link that only you can see.

  <Step title="Open the connection link">
    Open **Click this link to connect** within 10 minutes. Sign in to Let's Do
    This if prompted.

    The connection page shows the Slack account and Let's Do This account that
    will be linked. Check both accounts before continuing.

  <Step title="Connect the accounts">
    Click **Connect these accounts**. When you see **Slack connected**, return
    to the shared channel and ask your question again.

    You only need to connect once for that Slack account. Other people in the
    channel must connect their own accounts before they can use Nova.

## How access works

Nova uses the organizer access you already have in your Let's Do This account.
Connecting Slack does not share your password, give other people access to your
dashboard, or let Nova answer questions about organizers you cannot access.

Nova's responses are visible to everyone in the shared channel. If an answer
includes financial data, Nova shows it to you first and asks what to do with it:

* **Share with channel** posts that answer to the channel.
* **Always share here** posts it, and sends future financial answers straight to
  this channel. Other channels still check with you first.
* **Keep private** sends the answer to you as a direct message instead.

If you have access to more than one organizer, Nova chooses one as your default.
To change it, send Nova a message in this format:

> @Nova use organiser id 123456

Replace `123456` with the organizer ID you want Nova to use. The organizer must
also be available in the shared channel. Ask your Technical Account Manager if
you do not know the ID or cannot switch to it.

## Asking Nova questions

Tag **@Nova** whenever you start a new question in the shared channel. You can
ask the same kinds of questions you ask Nova in the dashboard, including:

* How registrations are tracking against last year.
* How much capacity remains for an event.
* Which tickets or add-ons are driving revenue.
* How your marketing campaigns are performing.

Keep follow-up questions in the same Slack thread so Nova has the context from
the conversation.

## Disconnecting your Slack account

Ask your Technical Account Manager if you need to disconnect your Slack account
from Nova. After it is disconnected, Nova can no longer use your Let's Do This
access from that Slack account. You can reconnect later by following the same
steps above.

## If the connection link expires

**What happens:** the connection page says the link is invalid or has expired.

**What to do:** return to the shared Slack channel and tag **@Nova** again. Nova
sends you a new personal link. Open it within 10 minutes.

## If the wrong accounts are shown

**What happens:** the connection page shows a different Slack or Let's Do This
account from the one you want to use.

**What to do:** return to Slack and message Nova from the Slack account you want
to connect. Make sure you are signed in to the correct Let's Do This account
before opening the new connection link.

## If the Slack account is already connected

**What happens:** the connection page says that the Slack account is already
connected to someone else.

**What to do:** ask your Technical Account Manager to help disconnect the
existing link before you try again. A Slack account cannot be connected to two
Let's Do This accounts at the same time.

## If Nova cannot access an organizer

**What happens:** Nova says you do not have access to the organizer, or it
cannot answer questions about that organizer in the shared channel.

**What to do:** check that you can open the organizer in your Let's Do This
dashboard. If you can open it but Nova still cannot use it, ask your Technical
Account Manager to check which organizers are available in the shared channel.

## If Nova does not respond

Make sure you tagged **@Nova** in the shared channel. If Nova still does not
reply, ask your Technical Account Manager to confirm that Nova is in the channel.
