# Category Pages

> Guide participants to the right tickets by adding a category selection step before the standard ticket page.

Category pages add a step between your event page and the ticket page. Instead of dropping every participant into your full ticket list, you first ask them to pick a category — International, Charity, Corporate, a distance, a membership status, or anything else you want to segment by. Once they choose, they land on the standard ticket selection page filtered down to just the tickets in that category.

## When to use category pages

Reach for a category page when the full ticket list is too broad or confusing on its own. Common cases:

* One race with several entry types (for example International, Charity, Corporate) that you want participants to self-select before seeing prices.
* Several races on one event page, where participants should pick a distance first.
* Tickets that should only be surfaced to participants who self-identify — local club members, students, or military participants.

You most likely don't need a category page if your ticket list is already short and easy to scan.

The category step is only a **filter** on your existing tickets. It doesn't change ticket prices, purchase rules, eligibility, form questions, or checkout — everything from the ticket page onward behaves the same as if the participant had landed there directly.

## Setting up category pages

Setup happens in two places under **Manage event**:

* **Details** tab — turn the feature on, write the page copy, and create your category labels.
* **Tickets** tab — assign each ticket to one or more categories.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Enable category selection">
    Open the event in **Manage event**, go to the **Details** tab, and scroll to the **Category Selection** section. Turn **Enable category selection** on.

    The feature is live as soon as you save. If you turn it on without adding any labels or assigning tickets, the category page will show one button per race, using the races already configured on your event — so you can enable the toggle first and refine the labels afterward.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Write the category page copy">
    Fill in the copy fields in the **Category Selection** section. All four fields support translations via **Add Translations**, so you can add localized copy without creating a separate event.

    * **Category selection headline** — the main title shown on the page. For example, *Choose Your Registration*.
    * **Category selection description** — supporting text below the headline. For example, *Select the registration that applies to you, whether you're entering from the UK, internationally, through a charity, or as part of a corporate team.*
    * **Category selection heading** *(optional)* — a shorter prompt shown directly above the category buttons. Useful when the headline is more brand-led and you want a clearer instruction next to the buttons — for example, *Where do you live?*
    * **Category selection subheading** *(optional)* — supporting text below the heading.

    A read-only **Category Selection URL** appears at the top of the same section. Use it in marketing links when you want a campaign to send participants straight to the category page instead of the event page.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Define your category labels">
    The **Category labels** section controls the buttons participants see on the category page.

    Click **Add**, then enter each label exactly as you want participants to see it — for example *International Registration*, *Charity Registration*, *Corporate Registration*. You can:

    * Add translations for each label.
    * Use **Remove** to delete a label you no longer need.
    * Reorder labels in the list — the order here is the order participants see the buttons in.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Assign tickets to categories">
    Category labels only work once tickets are assigned to them. Open the **Tickets** tab in Manage event and, for each ticket:

    1. Click **Edit**.
    2. Scroll to **Category group**.
    3. Select one or more category labels.
    4. Click **Update** and confirm the **Changes saved** dialog.

    **Category group** is a multi-select field, so a ticket can belong to more than one category. A ticket assigned to multiple categories will appear whenever a participant chooses any of those categories.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save your changes">
    Save the **Details** tab. The category page is now the default landing experience for the event's ticket flow.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What participants see

When category selection is enabled, participants land on the category page first. They see the headline, description, heading, and subheading you configured, along with a button for each category label. Choosing a category takes them to the standard ticket selection page, filtered to only show tickets in that category. From there, checkout works exactly as normal.

Tickets are still grouped by race on the ticket selection page. If a category contains tickets from more than one race, participants see one section per race, with only the relevant tickets inside each section.

## Tickets with no category are hidden from custom categories

A ticket with no **Category group** assignment will not appear behind any of your custom category buttons. If a category button leads to an empty ticket page, it usually means no tickets have been assigned to that label yet — open the **Tickets** tab and add the label to each ticket that should appear there.

## Tickets assigned to several categories appear in all of them

Participants aren't restricted from buying a ticket just because they reached it through a particular category. A ticket assigned to both *International* and *Corporate*, for example, shows up under either category page, and either group of participants can buy it.

## Category page still showing race names instead of your labels

If the category page is showing your race names rather than the labels you added, the fallback is kicking in — the feature is enabled but no custom labels are fully in use yet. Check that:

* Category labels have been added in the **Details** tab.
* At least one ticket has each label selected in **Category group** in the **Tickets** tab.

Once tickets are assigned to your labels, the custom labels replace the race fallback automatically.

## Turning category selection off

If you turn category selection off after sharing category page links, those links continue to work — participants land on the standard ticket selection page instead of the category step, and can buy tickets through the normal checkout. Existing campaign links don't need to be updated.

## Translations

Translations are managed per field. If you translate the headline into another language, translate the description, heading, subheading, and every category label into the same language too. If some fields are translated and others aren't, participants may see a mix of languages on the category page.

The event theme is applied automatically to the category page, so its colors and fonts already match the rest of your event — you don't need to configure anything extra.
