# Credits

> Issue and manage account credit that participants can redeem toward a future booking.

Account credit is a balance held against a participant's Let's Do This account that they can put toward a future booking with you. Credit is created two ways: automatically, when you convert an existing booking — see [Transfer to credit](/docs/managing-participants/transfers#transfer-to-credit) and [Refund to account credit](/docs/managing-participants/refunding#refund-to-account-credit) — or directly, by issuing credit to a participant's email address without touching an existing booking. This page covers issuing and managing credit directly; the two linked pages above cover converting a booking into credit.

## Issuing credit directly

Use this when you want to give a participant credit that isn't tied to canceling one of their bookings — for example, as a goodwill gesture or to resolve a support issue.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the Credit page">
    From your organizer dashboard sidebar, select **Growth**, then **Credit**. Click **Create**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the recipient and amount">
    Enter the participant's **email address** and the **credit amount**. The credit applies automatically the next time that email address is used to book with you — the participant doesn't need to redeem a code.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose what the credit applies to">
    Under **Applies to**, choose what the credit can be spent on: the **whole basket**, **tickets** only, the **booking fee**, **merch and add-ons**, or **form items**. You can select more than one. Donations can never be covered by credit.
  </Step>

  <Step title="(Optional) Set an expiry date">
    Turn on **Add expiry date** and choose a date. Credit must be used before this date, shown to the participant as the end of that day (UTC). Leave it off and the credit never expires.
  </Step>

  <Step title="(Optional) Restrict which events, races, or tickets it can be used on">
    By default the credit can be used on **all events, races and tickets**. Click **Choose selection** to restrict it to specific events, races, or ticket types instead.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Review and confirm">
    Click **Save**. A summary shows the recipient, what the credit applies to, and the total amount. Choose whether to **send an email to notify the participant**, then confirm.

    Whether or not you send the notification, the participant can always see the credit in their Let's Do This account.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Managing issued credit

The Credit page lists every credit issued to your participants, whether you created it directly or it was generated by a transfer or refund to credit. Above the table you'll see the total number of transfers and the total unused credit value.

Use **Hide Expired** and **Hide Used** to narrow the list, or search by the participant's **email address** or by **event**.

Each row shows:

* **Email Address** — the recipient.
* **Credit Remaining** — the unused balance.
* **Expires on** — the expiry date, if one was set.
* **Applies to events** — which events, races, or tickets the credit is restricted to, or all of them.
* **Applies to items** — which basket items the credit covers.
* **Origin** — how the credit was created: created by you directly, or generated from a transfer or refund to credit, naming the event it came from.

To change a credit, select its row and click **Modify**. You can update everything except the recipient's email address, which is fixed once the credit is created.

## Viewing a participant's credit

Open a participant's profile from **Customers** to see any credit on their account. Their card shows the amount and links through to the same edit view as the Credit page.

## What participants see

Participants view their credit from their Let's Do This account. It shows the total credit remaining and, if one was set, when it expires.

Below that, they see which of your events the credit can be used on. If you didn't restrict the credit, every one of your upcoming events is listed; if you did, only the eligible events, races, or tickets appear. Selecting an event lets them view its event page or go straight to booking a race.

The credit itself is applied automatically at checkout — as long as the participant checks out using the email address the credit was issued to, they don't need to do anything else to redeem it.
