# Add-ons

> Create add-on products that participants can purchase alongside their ticket — including clothing, services, accessories, and more.

Add-ons are products participants can buy when they register for your event. You create and manage them from the **Add-ons** section of your organizer dashboard — a separate catalog from your tickets, with its own inventory, variants, and fulfillment settings.

Use add-ons to sell items like event clothing, finisher medals, race pack services, or nutrition products. Anything that has a price, optional variants (such as size or color), and needs to be tracked and fulfilled alongside a registration is a good candidate.

## Adding a product

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Add-ons in your dashboard">
    In your organizer dashboard, go to **Merch** → **Products**. Click **Add product** to open the product creation flow.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add a title, description, and photos">
    Give the product a clear name and a description that helps participants understand what they're getting. Upload at least one photo — participants see it in checkout before deciding to add the item. See [Image specifications](/docs/creating-managing-events/image-specs) for the recommended size and aspect ratio.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Select a category">
    Choose the category that best fits your product. The category determines how the item is taxed.

    | Category    | Common uses                                                                  |
    | ----------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
    | Clothing    | T-shirts, hoodies, socks, hats                                               |
    | Medals      | Finisher medals, trophies                                                    |
    | Photos | Event photos, digital downloads |
    | Services | Race pack collection or postage, parking, camping, coaching, ticket upgrades |
    | Accessories | Hydration packs, race belts, goggles, helmets, GPS devices |
    | Transport   | Shuttle buses, transfers                                                     |
    | Nutrition   | Gels, bars, drinks                                                           |
    | Swimwear | Wetsuits, swim caps, goggles, swimsuits |
    | Other | Anything that doesn't fit the above |

    Some categories — particularly Clothing and Swimwear — ask you to pick a sub-category (for example, Tops / Bottoms or Wetsuit) so the tax treatment is accurate.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the fulfillment method">
    Choose how participants receive the item:

    * **Ship to buyer** — participants provide a shipping address during checkout and the item is sent to them. See [Shipping addresses for add-ons](/docs/event-setup/shipping-addresses-for-add-ons) for how to collect and manage addresses.
    * **Pick up on race day** — participants collect the item at the event.

    If neither applies, you can leave this unset.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the price and stock">
    Enter a price. The maximum is \$999.99 per variant (or the equivalent in your event currency).

    For stock, enter how many units you have available or turn on **Unlimited stock** if you don't want to cap purchases. When a limited-stock product runs out, it becomes unavailable in checkout automatically.
  </Step>

  <Step title="(Optional) Add variants">
    If your product comes in different options — such as size, color, or fit — define those options and the system generates a variant for each combination. Each variant can have its own price and stock level.

    For example, a hoodie might have Small, Medium, Large, and XL variants, each tracking its own inventory.
  </Step>

  <Step title="(Optional) Set purchase limits and mandatory settings">
    * **Purchase limit** — the maximum number of units a single participant can add to their order.
    * **Mandatory** — if turned on, the product is automatically included in checkout for eligible participants and they must take a minimum quantity you specify. Use this for items every participant receives, such as an included finisher T-shirt.
  </Step>

  <Step title="(Optional) Restrict availability">
    By default, a product appears for all participants across all your events. You can restrict it to specific events, race categories, or ticket types — for example, to offer a product only to participants in a particular race or on a specific ticket.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What participants see

After filling in their details, participants reach a dedicated **Add-ons** step in checkout. Each available product appears as a card. Participants click a card to view the description, select a variant if the product has one, and add it to their basket.

Once added, the item appears in the basket. Participants can increase or decrease the quantity before continuing to payment. The final order summary and success page show every add-on they purchased.

## Tracking sales and managing entries

To see add-on sales data, use the **Reports** section of your dashboard. To make changes to a participant's add-ons after registration — such as swapping a variant or removing an item — use the **Startlist**.

## Limits and edge cases

**Quantity per order.** If you don't set a purchase limit on a product, the system caps each participant at 100 units of that product per checkout session.

**Out-of-stock items.** When a product with limited stock sells out, it stops appearing in checkout. It reappears automatically if stock is restored — for example, if a booking is refunded and the inventory is returned.

**Mandatory products and group bookings.** Mandatory add-ons apply per individual participant, not per group booking. Participants claiming entries from a group booking do not see mandatory add-ons in their checkout flow.

**Payment plans.** When a participant is on a payment plan, the cost of add-ons is spread across installments alongside the ticket — unless the add-on pays a third party directly, in which case it is charged in full as part of the first installment. See [Payment Plans](/docs/event-setup/payment-plans) for more detail.
