# Partner applications

> Let partners, charities, and companies request a block of entries, then allocate a group of places for them to distribute.

<Info>
  Partner application tickets are set up for you by Let's Do This. To accept
  partner applications on your event, contact your Technical Account Manager.
</Info>

A **partner application** is a request from an organization — a partner, charity, or company — for a block of entries, rather than a single participant applying for themselves. The organization applies for the places it wants, and on approval you allocate a group of reserved entries it distributes to its own people.

Use partner applications when you allocate places to organizations rather than individuals: charity places, company team blocks, or official partners who bring their own participants.

The key difference from an individual application is the allocation: approving a partner allocates a *group* of reserved entries the organization hands out, rather than a single place. The rest of the journey — apply, approve, claim — is covered in [What are applications?](/docs/ballots-applications/what-are-applications).

## Collecting information from the partner

You can add questions to the application form for the organization to answer when it applies — for example a contact name, the organization it represents, or how many places it expects to use. Their answers come through with the application, so you have the information you need before deciding.

## Paying for places

Companies can pay up front for their block of places using the **Pay when successful** setting: their card is pre-authorized when they apply, and the charge is taken once you approve the application. This secures payment for the allocation at the point you grant it.

## Approving a partner application

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the application">
    Find the partner application in your **Applications** table — you can search by partner as well as by applicant name, email, or application ID — and open it to review.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set up the places they'll receive">
    On the approval screen, set up the group of reserved entries the partner will receive — the block of places they can hand out.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Approve and notify">
    Approve to allocate the entries. The partner can be notified by email and receives links to claim and distribute their places. Each place is then claimed and completed individually.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Approving allocates a block of held places — it doesn't put anyone on your
  Startlist yet. Your Startlist fills up as the partner distributes places and
  each person completes their entry form, so an allocated block and your
  Startlist count won't match until every place is claimed.
</Note>

## Where partners manage their places

Once you approve a partner, they distribute and track their allocated places from their own **partner dashboard** — a separate area their organization logs into. They invite people to fill places, watch their fill rate, and manage individual entries from there. See [Partner dashboard](/docs/ballots-applications/partner-dashboard) for what your partners can do.

## Checking for duplicate applications

Organizations sometimes apply more than once. Ask your Technical Account Manager to check for duplicates and a list of potential matches is generated from first name, last name, and email address, so you don't allocate the same place twice.
